Cancer Research Wales unites with Newport Transport to launch a new ‘one-of-a kind’ bus

A NEW Cancer Research Wales public bus has set to the streets in South Wales to help promote the charity’s bright new brand.

With support from Lydon Contracting Ltd and Newport Transport, the branded bus will cover a wide area from the rural routes in Chepstow and Monmouth to city, public and school routes within Newport and Cardiff.

Around 20,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in Wales, with around 175 families losing a loved one every day. Cancer Research Wales is the only charity dedicated wholly to funding cancer research in Wales, for Wales.

Ann Tate, CEO at Cancer Research Wales, said “At a historic time for the charity, when we are developing a new research strategy to help more people affected by cancer in Wales, our new brand represents the importance of research to improve treatments and care for cancer patients.”

The charity’s new logo and brand is inspired by the DNA sequencing gels that Cancer Research Wales funded researchers use to determine exactly where genetic mistakes have occurred.

Ann explained the significance; “Our DNA is what makes us human, but it’s also what sets us apart and this is what drives us forward to change cancer outcomes across Wales. Our brand also represents that we believe that hope remains at the core of our DNA, hope for the next generation of cancer patients, for our children, and for Wales.”

To help raise awareness of the lifesaving work of the charity, Cancer Research Wales are encouraging the public to keep a look out for the bus and to share a photo of it on social media, using the hashtag #spotthebus.

Ann Tate added “We are extremely grateful to Newport Transport and Lydon Contracting for their support with the creation of this new one-of-a-kind Cancer Research Wales branded bus. It’s a great opportunity for us to present our new brand to the public and we hope people will enjoy seeing our new look as this bus travels across South Wales.

“Our vision is to unite Wales against cancer through world class research, and we hope this bus will encourage people to join us and help transform the lives of people affected by cancer in Wales.”

Scott Pearson, Managing Director, of Newport Transport and Chair of the Cancer Research Wales Trustees said, “Newport Transport being a local community based public transport operator was more than happy to provide a double decker bus to aid Cancer Research Wales promote the new brand, raising awareness of the importance of research into cancer treatments for the people of Wales.
