Nigel Walker

Nigel Walker was born and raised in Cardiff and is a former international athlete and rugby player who represented GB in the 1984 Olympics and represented Wales 17 times on the rugby field. He lives in Cardiff with his wife Mary and has 3 daughters.

His working career began in the Welsh Office where he spent 11 years before moving to the Sports Council for Wales as a Development Officer in 1993. A brief time was spent as a professional rugby player and broadcaster before he moved to BBC Wales as its Head of Sport in 2001. 

On leaving BBC Wales in 2010 he took up the post of National Director of the English Institute of Sport where he stayed for 11 years before taking up a role as Executive Director of Rugby with the Welsh Rugby Union.

He was awarded an OBE for services to sport in 2019.
