Run by former primary school teacher Jess Renault– it’s her very first business venture - the store has been open for almost a year in Pontcanna Mews off King’s Road, near Cathedral Road.
The company aims to provide a hassle-free option for selling second-hand clothes and its curated womenswear has a focus on timeless fashion that can be loved again and again.
Speaking about why she’s chosen to support Cancer Research Wales, Jess said: “Déjà Vu has been open for almost a year and marks my first business venture since leaving primary school teaching. I chose to partner with Cancer Research Wales because they work directly with Welsh healthcare, ensuring patients in Wales get the vital treatment they need.
“This cause is personal to me, as like many others, my family and loved ones have been affected by cancer. By donating clothes from Déjà Vu and partnering with Cancer Research Wales, I hope to contribute to getting more care and support to those who need it most.”
According to Déjà Vu, 3,500 tonnes of used but still wearable clothes go to landfill every year in the UK which equates to £140 million literally being thrown away.
The company also says that globally we have £30 billion of unworn clothes sitting in our wardrobes and that extending the life of a piece of clothing by just 9 months reduces its carbon, waste and water footprint by 20-30%.
Lorraine Boyd, Head of Retail at Cancer Research Wales said: “We’re very grateful to Jess for her kind and generous gesture and support for our Whitchurch store, which sells a range of quality pre-loved items. We always need new, high quality donations and thanks to Jess, we’ve got a more regular stream of items coming to the shop. For anyone reading this we can always do with more stock, so, if you can, please take a leaf out of Jess’s book and help support your local Cancer Research Wales store.”
