Professor Richard Clarkson

Professor Richard Clarkson is Science Director for the Wales Cancer Bank, Co-Director of the European Cancer Stem Cell Research Institute and an expert in cancer stem cells. Having joined Cardiff University in 2005, Professor Clarkson has built his research group focusing on understanding cancer stem cells, treatment-resistant cells potentially responsible for cancer relapse, and exploring ways to target these cells with new treatments designed in collaboration with the School of Pharmacy at Cardiff University. With involvement in several clinical trials and collaborators across academia and health services, Professor Clarkson’s research is advancing new approaches to cancer treatment.
