Payroll Giving
Payroll Giving is a simple, tax-efficient way for employees to donate regularly to charity straight from their salary. It’s one of the most effective ways for businesses to support Cancer Research Wales, while boosting staff engagement and wellbeing.
What Is Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving lets your employees support good causes directly through deductions from their pay before income tax is applied. Because donations are taken from gross pay, employees give more for less and charities receive funds without the need to claim Gift Aid.
- Tax-efficient: A donation costs less to the giver, meaning their support goes further.
- Regular and reliable: Monthly or weekly donations help charities plan long-term projects, including life-saving research.
- Flexible: Employees choose how much and how often to give and can amend or stop their gift at any time.
How It works for employers
1. Set up a Payroll Giving scheme Partner with an HMRC-approved Payroll Giving Agency to make the scheme available to staff.
2. Communicate with your team Promote the scheme during Payroll Giving Month (each February) or throughout the year to boost participation and visibility.
3. Support and celebrate giving Encourage giving with internal campaigns, matched donations, challenges or recognition events.
