Snooker legend Jimmy White is guest at Caernarfon charity fundraiser

Caernarfon Town FC event raises £1,700 for Cancer Research Wales

Snooker legend Jimmy ‘The Whirlwind’ White was the special guest at a fundraising event for Cancer Research Wales in Caernarfon recently.

Fans ‘cue’d’ up to bid on a chance to play the snooker champion at the event at Caernarfon Town Football Club.

The winning bidder – local businessman Stephen Lilley, bid a very generous £1,500 to play a snooker match against Jimmy White.

The 80 guests who turned up on the night had a chance to bid on a cue and case generously donated by Jimmy, along with a sketch of the snooker master, which all went for £200.

Jimmy White also played a few frames of snooker with members of the Bangor and District Snooker League.

Raising over £1,700 for Cancer Research Wales – the Welsh cancer research charity, the event was organised by Ken Henson, Darren Hughes and Llŷr Hughes.

“It was an amazing experience" said Ken, “The turnout was incredible and Ken, Darren and Llŷr, would like to thank everyone who attended. We would especially like to thank the following that helped us on the evening - Carwyn, Ellis, Iwan, Mitch the photographer, the two referees - Rhys, Iorwerth and our M.C. - Ivor, as well as the eight snooker players of the league that played Jimmy.

“Also, a thank you to the legend Jimmy White. We raised £1,700 in total for Cancer Research Wales - a charity very close to all of us in Caernarfon”.

Nicole Quirk, Fundraising Manager at Cancer Research Wales said:

“It was a great pleasure to meet Ken, Darren, Llŷr and Stephen to accept their wonderful donation to Cancer Research Wales. It's brilliant to see such a high-profile snooker player attend their event and support their efforts to fundraise.”
