Cancer Research Wales urges Wales to unite against breast cancer

Charity launches its Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign

Cancer Research Wales is asking the Welsh public to wear pink this October in support of people affected by breast cancer, and to raise money to help fund our life-saving research.

Raising awareness

“I'm really proud to be an ambassador for Cancer Research Wales. This October, as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're raising awareness for breast cancer,” said radio presenter, broadcaster and Cancer Research Wales ambassador Angela Jay.

“One in seven people here in Wales will get diagnosed with breast cancer. How can we all help? We can raise as much awareness as we can, to fund earlier diagnosis here in Wales, and you can help by wearing pink and talking about breast cancer to your friends and family,” she added.

Stars of Welsh sport

Angela recently joined 13 stars of Welsh sport and staff from Cancer Research Wales at Cardiff Castle for a photoshoot to launch our Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign.

Also there was Charlotte ‘Lotty’ Whalley, the Commonwealth Championships and Commonwealth Games medallist weightlifter and current Welsh women's 63kg lifting record holder.

Cardiff City FC Women goalkeeper Daniela Kosińska, Wales international street footballer Marie Tilley, and LexisNexis Risk Solutions Dragons netballers Leah Middleton and Phillipa Yarranton were there too.

Welsh international golfers Fauve Birch and Kath O'Connor and multi-Commonwealth Games gymnastics medallist Laura Halford also came to the launch.

And from Cardiff Met Archers Basketball Club, the incredible Alyssa Durazo-Frescas, Laila Anderson, Ivory Finley, Emma Bailey and Lily Parkin popped along to show their support.

Supporting vital research

Adam Fletcher, Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Research Wales, said:

“By taking part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month with Cancer Research Wales this October, you'll be helping to support vital research, improve outcomes for patients and bring hope to families affected by cancer across Wales. Together, we can make a difference.

“Thanks to everyone who's supported us so far to raise awareness of and shine a spotlight on the research we fund into breast cancer here in Wales. But we need even more people and businesses to unite with us against breast cancer.

“So this October, please wear pink, please fundraise for Cancer Research Wales, and by working together we can keep funding new research to bring hope to women affected by breast cancer across Wales, their families and loved ones.”

We are the Welsh cancer research charity. Help us fund world class research in Wales.

Every week in Wales, 175 families lose a loved one to cancer. We are working to make sure that the people of Wales don't have to accept cancer as a life-threatening disease. But we need your support. Donate today and help bring better treatments closer to home for patients across Wales.
