Cancer Research Wales wins at Welsh Charity Awards
We pick up ‘Organisation of the year’ award
It was a big night for Cancer Research Wales at the WCVA’s Welsh Charity Awards 2026 at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff last night as we won the ‘Organisation of the year’ award.
Sponsored by The Open University in Wales, the award was presented to us for demonstrating excellence in all areas — impact, leadership, governance, innovation and inclusion.
Outstanding results
It also acknowledges that Cancer Research Wales has achieved outstanding results and created positive, lasting change for individuals or communities.
To reach the finals, Cancer Research Wales had to demonstrate how we have maintained high standards while embracing innovation, resilience, equality, diversity, anti-racism, and the Welsh language — all while delivering meaningful impact.
Improving outcomes for patients
Receiving the Welsh, Adam Fletcher, Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Research Wales said:
“Cancer Research Wales was founded at the Velindre Cancer Centre in 1966 by a group of doctors and researchers who wanted to improve outcomes for patients in Wales.
“The charity’s history is fascinating but over the last 60 years but we’ve become an independent, Wales-wide charity and we’re working in every community in Wales now to help people raise money to fund new cancer research in Wales.
“All the money we raise stays in Wales to benefit patients and researchers in Wales, so thank you so much for this award – I cannot wait to tell all our staff and supporters about it.”
