Cancer Research Wales’s 60th anniversary

Cancer Research Wales is 60 years old this year

We’ve come a long way since the charity was established in Cardiff in 1966, as the South Wales Cancer Research Council.

As the independent Welsh cancer research charity - and no, we’re not connected to any other cancer research charities - we’ve invested over £39 million to push the boundaries of cancer research here in Wales over the last six decades.

Our pioneering work has been bringing hope to people affected by cancer in Wales – their families, friends and loved ones for 60 years.

All our research funding is spent here in Wales

With only a very small percentage of donations made to general cancer research in the UK actually being put to use in Wales, at Cancer Research Wales all our research funding is spent here in Wales.

We fund world-class research into cancer in Wales so that the people Wales don’t get left behind - today and tomorrow.

Through our innovative work, we create opportunities for those affected by cancer here to have access to the latest cancer trials, treatments, diagnostics and pathways.

We also grow, retain and develop cancer research expertise in Wales by funding cancer research scientists as well as nurturing the next generation of experts through our PhD programmes.

The support of the people of Wales

We have only been able do this important work over the last 60 years thanks to the support of the people of Wales and we still need your support.
