Mari Grug takes on the She Ultra for Cancer Research Wales

Our fantastic ambassador – the much-loved TV and radio personality and author, Mari Grug, is taking on the She Ultra for Cancer Research Wales.

On April 11, Mari and a group of her friends will be hiking the 50km from the beach in Abersoch to the centre of Pwllheli on the beautiful Llŷn Peninsula. They'll be joining 1,800 other women for the world's largest all-female ultra marathon event.

It's starting to feel very real

"I foolishly said on live TV last year that I was tempted by the challenge of the She Ultra, so in August 2025, I signed up for the event. There's less than a month to go now, and it's starting to feel very real. I keep reminding myself that it's not a race and I will be surrounded by friends," said Mari Grug.

"I'm raising money for Cancer Research Wales – the Welsh cancer research charity, so if you're able to contribute, every donation would be hugely appreciated."

Mother-of-three Mari revealed in July 2023 that she had been undergoing treatment for metastatic breast cancer. She was made a Cancer Research Wales ambassador in January 2025.

A fantastic ambassador

"Mari is a fantastic ambassador for Cancer Research Wales and we are extremely lucky and grateful for everything she does for the charity," said Lisa Buckley, Cancer Research Wales's Head of Income Generation.

"Her contribution to our work is immense – from hosting our Cherish concert and Gala dinner, to raising awareness of Cancer Research Wales by driving a pink branded tractor at a cancer awareness event in Pembrokeshire, all while juggling chemotherapy sessions every three weeks, a busy career and being a wife and mother to three young children, she truly is a remarkable person.

"We just can't thank her enough and I would urge everyone who can to support Mari's incredible efforts and sponsor her for the She Ultra 2026."
